27 killed in fighting in the Philippines
    Philippine Times
    Saturday 28th March, 2009
    (IANS)

Seven soldiers and 20 Muslim rebels were killed in a clash in the southern Philippines, the army said Saturday.

The fighting erupted at dawn Friday when patrolling troops encountered about 80 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Mamasapano town in Maguindanao province, 960 km south of Manila, Lt Col Jonathan Ponce said.

Ponce said five soldiers were wounded in the fighting, which lasted for more than eight hours. 'Scores were also wounded on the enemy side,' he said.

Ponce said more troops have been dispatched to pursue the rebels, who escaped to the mountains in the early evening.

The MILF has been fighting for the establishment of a separate Islamic state in the southern region of Mindanao since 1978.

Peace talks between the MILF and the Philippine government have been suspended since August when the guerrillas launched a series of attacks in Mindanao, triggering fierce fighting with the military.

Nearly 300 people were killed in the attack and subsequent fighting while more than 500,000 civilians were displaced.

The hostilities erupted after the Supreme Court stopped the signing of a territorial agreement between the MILF and the government that would have expanded a Muslim autonomous region in Mindanao.

What is happening to our military? its because the good commanders are all in jail for telling the truth? The clearing out of NPAs until 2010?assuming! The government wants to clear out the NPA coz they are stopping their monkey businesses whilst they let go of the Abus sayaf because they gain so much money from them, NPAs they are more than 5 thousand rebels, the ABU SAYAF? More than a hundred,NPAs doesnt kidnap for money, extorion? i dont know but comparing to how much money the PNP extort on broad day light and how much money they get from illegal activities, drug protecting and etc? Just remember the event in 2001 when the abu sayaf was sorrounded by soldiers in a hospital, they escaped like no one is there? its not like 5 of them they were like 60 or more including hostages, how could they do that, is that a proof of dumb military strategy or million of dollars were collected as safety pass? The government denies about the ransom to protect its image in dealing with terrorism but libya paid almost $150 million to release the hostages, sad to say that the Philippine govt denies it but the whole world is watching it thru the testimonies of the kidnap victims about the collusion, you can watch it on “Locked up abroad” by NatGeotv i think. What a shame! Our prayers to the soldiers and victims of these wars while there commanders are gaining so much money from it.

    Brothers against Brothers

The Philippimnes seems to me is a land of revolt and known killings. Brothers against brothers with the same motives. We been fighting revolts for about 400 years and I am not sure any more when it will stop. These revolt is benefiting the leaders who in fact some of them are enjoying the luxureis abroad and some iof them in the Philippines living as high as hog heaven and the local Pilipinos at armed dying for them. Are we insane or we just want to die for somebody who do care about our well being. Are we fighting for freedom that we already have or are we fighting for the creedy leaders of the revolts that are setting pretty in a nice air conditioned home in Manila waiting for the bounty of plenty if the win the revolt. Philiipines Armed Forces are there yto depend the constitutions that is set forth by our country law a nd elected politican leaders. When are going to settle and enjoy life in the island that day and nite you can wak around with out no fear of gun fire or kidnapers going to grab you for ransom. Pilipinos let us protect our land from the enemy across the Philippines oceans and seas not within among our selves. We are brothers and sister without no bearing on religions and belief. We are Pilipinos and I am proud to be one and Also A MUSLIM

It si nothing but the truth, that the leadership are away from the fighting in a very nice air conditon home with all the aminities of life. They are not with poor fighters so claimed, so hungary and do not know when the next meal will be coming from. No shoes, no medicine, no food and clean clothing to wear and hiding in a infested jungle w/malaria lingering all the time. Give up the fight and live peacefully among your brothers and sister and your parents. You all are fighting for nothing.TGhe leader does not care for you and all the care is to take over the leadership of the country by all means.
